Social Partnerships - Corporate and Brand Engagement

Strong brands and innovative technologies are our core business. Moreover, in Social Partnerships they take over responsibility and enforce innovative projects for the benefit of society. Through Social Partnerships Henkel and its brands contribute to foster community life and the advancement of society through company and brand partnerships. We have been able to inspire numerous partners to join us in assuming responsibility and providing support for social projects.

Futurino

As an example: The 100th birthday of Persil, celebrated under the motto “100 years of Persil – Better than ever,” was marked in Germany by “Project Futurino”.

The aim of this project was to improve opportunities for development and education for children and young people. Consumers were asked to nominate children’s and young people’s projects that deserved to be supported. From more than 2,500 submissions, 197 non-profit projects were selected.

Thanks to “Project Futurino,” more than 40,000 children and young people throughout Germany received special support. In view of its great success and the positive response, the project has been continued in 2008 and 2009.

The Hugo Henkel Award

The importance and the benefits of the natural sciences and technologies are unquestionable. We must reinforce their position in society and particularly in schools by motivating more children and youths with enthusiasm for science, because science and technology do play a key role in current changes in society. They are essential for technological and societal changes as well as a basis for one’s livelihood.

Every second year Henkel in Düsseldorf, Germany, endows the Hugo Henkel Award. The award honors school concepts that aim at the education in sciences and technology in secondary schools starting with grade 5. Every German site of the Henkel Group can participate.

Education for Children in Need

“Education for Children in Need” is the motto of a three-year project of the Henkel brand “Schauma” in cooperation with the UNESCO.

In 2006 “Schauma” – the market leader in the German hair care segment – together with the Klitschko Brothers support the UNESCO in building a school in Namibia. In 2007, the Schauma brand started the education and life project in Western Kenya in cooperation with UNESCO. Through the financial contribution and the coordination measures and help of the UNESCO staff in Kenya, HIV-infected orphans can now receive medical care and attend school. The children therefore have prospects for the future. Katarina Jahrling, former Marketing Director for Schwarzkopf & Henkel Cosmetis Germany and responsible for “Schauma” summarizes: “Children need our help. The UNESCO foundation is the perfect partner for us in order to stand up for the needs of children”.
