Fountain of youth for an aging head of hair

The hair of older people becomes thinner, weaker and more brittle. To find the cause of this, Henkel scientists plucked a number of hair follicles from male and female volunteers in a study of men and women under 25 and over 50 years of age. They then examined the follicles for genetic differences between younger and older hair. The genetic analyses showed that the metabolic performance of the hair follicle changes with age. Two of the nine different hair keratins that have so far been identified are not reproduced in sufficient amounts to replace losses. This is why the hair of older people loses substance. The coenzyme Q10 used to be known above all for its positive skin care effect.

The Henkel researchers made a completely new discovery when they allowed coenzyme Q10 to act on hair follicles: This substance reactivated the generation of the keratins whose reproduction was almost at a standstill in the hair of older people. Appropriate experiments with hair follicle models and volunteer studies have confirmed this. This active ingredient has therefore been incorporated in the new hair care range Bonacure Time Restore Q10 for more mature hair. The products can only be obtained from hair salons.
